A Mentor’s Messages: Jim Rohn

One of the people who’s teaching has had a profound impact on me is the late Jim Rohn. His humor and pithy insights about human nature and especially the impact personal development has on contribution, success, and self-directed happiness are worth taking note of and talking about that I flicked through several of my journals today and found a bunch of his sayings that I have written down over the last 10 years and I thought I’d share them with you. 1.            The future is easy to predict: it will be opportunity mixed with difficulty

2.            For things to change, you have to change

3.            Success is something you attract, not something you pursue

4.            Success is what you attract by being the person you become

5.            Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal

6.            Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better

7.            Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skill

8.            If you want to have more you need to become more

9.            Your outer world is a reflection of your inner world so if you want to change your outer world you need to work on yourself

10.         Wisdom and faith need to be deposited in activity – ideas and faith put to work is what gets results

11.         What’s easy to do is easy not to do

12.         Don’t major in minor things

13.         Successful people do the things unsuccessful people don’t want to do

14.         Self protection leads to mediocrity, self service leads to fortune

15.         There are only about half a dozen things that have an 80% impact on your life

16.         Activity finishes the miracle process of turning nothing into something

17.         Life doesn’t get better by chance, it gets better by change

18.         Without a sense of urgency, desire loses its value

19.         Leaders are readers

20.         You’re only one idea away from transforming your life

21.         Continuous learning is your key to transforming your life

22.         It’s not what a book costs that’s important, it’s what it will cost you if you don;t read it

23.         You must take responsibility for your own education

24.         You can have more than you’ve got by becoming more than you are; and, unless you change what you are , you’ll always have what you’ve got

25.         Formal education will get you a job, self education will get you a fortune

26.         Life is not designed to give you what you need, it’s designed to give you what you’re worth

27.         Don’t suffer from possibility blindness

28.         You become the average of the 5 people you spend most time with: choose carefully

29.         If you want to be an above average earner, you need to become an above average person

30.         Most things in the world are easy to learn but difficult to master

31.         Whenever there’s a fork in the road most people take the easy route

32.         Rarely does your income exceed your personal development

33.         If you took all the money in the work and divided it equally to everyone, within a few years it would be back in the pockets it came from

34.         It’s not what happens that determines the quality of your life because what happens, happens to everyone. It’s what you do about what happens that makes the difference.
